outro tempo ii: electronic and contemporary music from brazil, 1984-1996 is the second installment of music from memorys brazilian series. this volume picks up where the first outro tempo left off, shedding light on a new wave of experimentalism that emerged in brazil in the late 1980s and 1990s. the twenty tracks collected uncover another area of brazilian music that looked to the future for inspiration. this time it drifts beyond the rainforest and into the pulsating heart of brazil�s great cities, where it meets a generation of young artists eager to radically change the face of contemporary brazilian music. in outro tempo ii the avant garde and pop worlds meld in a haze of percussion and electronics. it presents another uncompromising and magnetic reinterpretation of the limits of brazilian music. outro tempo ii is compiled again by john gómez and features original artwork by alice quaresma.

ben jacobs aka crackazat first made a name for himself when he was still living in bristol and released on ep on the city s futureboogie label, which has also signed music from the likes of julio bashmore, crazy p and outboxx. early in his career crackazat was also the official warm up act for an at the time up and coming artist called floating points, who now needs no introduction as one of the world s leading electronic music producers. moving to sweden shortly after the futureboogie release, crackazat made contact with the local talk owners mad mats and tooli, and after a couple of single/ep releases signed his debut solo album crescendo. the last couple of years crackazat has had an explosion of global popularity, which has led to playing gigs all over the world, and releasing tracks and remixes on labels ranging from josh wink s ovum, joey negro s z records and eureka in japan. classically trained with a strong jazz influence, crackazat has a distinctively individual sound that fuses funk with soulful vocals and the electronic bass music associated with his former home of bristol. eloquent and intelligent, rainbow fantasia is a masterpiece that showcases one of electronic music s most exciting talents.

vocalist and mult- instrumentalist family thebroomfield s might be new to you but deepfunk heads know the deal. the six broomfield siblings (vocalist, diane and her 5 brothers) released some of the best rare groove 12s and 45s in the 1980s (although this 45 was recorded in 1979) as well as recording with betty wright, kc and the sunshine band, timmy thomas, little beaver, julio iglesias, michael sterling and many, many more. championed by keb darge and others on the deepfunk scene in the early 2000s, this record has remained agonisingly elusive, despite being very popular as both sides are brilliant. so, with the help of symphonical records we got in touch with aaron and made this happen, look out for aaron s 45 dropping soon as well.

�cuidado madame�, arto lindsay�s first full-length album of new material since 2004�s salt. the album is titled after an infamous 1970 julio bressane film about oppressed housemaids revolting against and brutally murdering their mistresses. the literal translation is �careful, madame.�
the album is produced by lindsay. it features melvin gibbs, paul wilson, kassa overall, patrick higgins, ryu takahashi and thiago nassif.
candomblé (spiritual rhythms revolving around possession and trance) served as the foundation for the record. the process began with recordings of atabaques in brazil. lindsay wrote melodies and lyrics over the rhythms in the studio in brooklyn.
the album is an exploration of the cultural nexus of afro-brazilian spirituality and western modernity.

remix #1 is one the favorites of the entire project. claude met brazils dj marky on an artist bus at a uk festival last summer and gave him the track >aundy<. he asked him to do a mix and marky and his friend s.p.y. turned in this amazing drum n bass version. numerous artists have been dropping it even in the middle of house sets! it really captures the drum n bass feeling of the original track taking it back to the genre which inspired it.
remix #2 is from our up and coming bristol based bass prodigy, julio bashmore. he takes on >california< the co-production by cvs and j phlip to another level, adding smooth low end bukem style bass drops and shimmery vox/pad programming to the already insane track. bashmore is one of the few new breed of uk producers who cross over all the way from house to dubstep.
